FAQs

What Methods do you use? Are you A “purely positive” Trainer?

The short answer is that Rise Above is a balanced training company.

We are open to ALL tools and believe in approaching each dog as an individual. We focus first and foremost on what motivates the dog in front of us and always start with reinforcement based training first, but in the decade we’ve spent studying dog training under trainers from all walks all across the country we have seen first hand on so many occasions the ways tools genuinely helped dogs that other trainers deemed unhelpable.

Although we started out our training journey rejecting all tools, our lived experience working with the truly difficult dogs, both in shelters and in homes, under world class trainers with the dog’s best interest truly at heart has brought us to naturally evolve into a balanced approach. We are firm believers that a dog missing out on a full life in order to avoid certain tools is far more inhumane than any collar we could ever use.

how many sessions until we will meet our training goals?

Training results are dependent on the human’s participation, consistency, and follow through. The sooner we can get you to change your habits with your dogs the sooner you will see results. There is no clear answer because every dog is different. Every human is different. Typically 6-8 sessions is a decent amount of information and hands on practice for any subject we cover, but depending on the issue, the dog, and the extenuating factors that come with each home we visit it greatly varies.

Do you offer discounts or packages?

Yep! We offer several training packages tailored to fit your training goals. 4,6, and 8 week packages are available, as well as puppy packages with shorter sessions to keep the session fun and productive for your new family member.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A PRIVATE LESSON?

Private lessons are hands on instructional session where we work with you and your dog. We start in a low distraction environment to establish the mechanics you and your dog need to be succesful, and then progress into more difficult environments as you both get more comfortable.
